About the Cohort
The Educating Librarians in the Middle South (ELMS) Project was created due to a growing need for new information professionals in the Middle South region. The University of North Texas College of Information formed a partnership with the UNT and UAMS Libraries to provide scholarships for applicants in Arkansas and western Tennessee. The group of 47 students enrolled in this two year program is known as the ELMS Cohort, which is directed by Dr. Yvonne Chandler, Associate Professor at UNT in the Department of Library and Information Science.
The program began in January 2014 with an in-person Web Institute that met in Little Rock, Arkansas. Over four days, students were given an introduction to the core courses, instructions on using Blackboard and other aspects of UNT's online programs, and were also given the opportunity to network with fellow classmates as well as some of UNT’s Library and Information Science faculty. The ELMS Cohort will graduate in December 2015 at the Arkansas State Library in Little Rock.
